G4 : Prediction in Reading to Develop Interests

This week , grade 4 teachers have been busy introducing our first class novel, El Deafo by Cece Bell. This book is an autobiographical graphic novel that describes the childhood of a young girl who finds herself becoming deaf at a young age and her ensuing struggles for normality. A reading skill that we have focused on this week is prediction from Peter the Predictor. We have investigated how and why we use prediction skills in reading to help develop interests, investigate contexts and other helpful details. We will continue to develop other reading skills.
