Kindergarten Field Trip: Popcorn Factory

For our field trip this month, we went to Pop Smile Popcorn Factory. Before departure, we talked about the vocabulary we will use for the day, including kernel, heat, factory, snack, movie, etc. As we arrived, children first learned about the different types of corn we commonly see. Then we explored the science behind popcorn-making and why it pops. We got to taste a special flavor from the factory and also tried out plain popcorn with no flavor. Children then watched a popcorn train going through the process of popcorn making - first pouring in kernel, adding in oil, heating up, then adding flavor. At the end children made a popcorn craft bracelet and an edible popcorn cone. What a fun day enjoying this delicious snack!
