G4 IM Project: PACK Animal Rescue visit to Kuei Shan

It's a cold rainy day, but Kuei Shan PYP students are hot-blooded than ever.

Today, we invited PACK 巴克幫 , the nonprofit charity that PYP students choose to donate their pocket money for. Ms.Echo represents PACK , introducing their overall philosophy and the shelter's surroundings.

PACK 巴克幫 locates at hill of Taipei's suburb. They take care of 200 stray dogs and help those lost animals to find new homes. Before starting the new chapter in life, dogs will undergo certain behavioral assessments and training, so they can have a compatible partner as a pet owner in the future.

PYP students also learnt the essential requisites for adoption. To provide a healthy living environment, nutritious food, clean water, spacious space, leash, adequate exercise, microchip and spay/neuter are all very important. If you decide to adopt a dog, don't give up easily. If you are not sure whether to become a foster family yet, attending summer camps organized by PACK and volunteering are kind choices too.

At the end of session, students had chance to have interaction with 球球 (the adorable dog in the photos).and to show friendliness you have to .Also, they proposed many interesting&thoughtful questions to Ms.Echo.

Student: Why do you want to work in PACK?

Ms.Echo: Because I am an animal lover, I raise 3 cats in my house. At work, I take care of 200 dogs.

Student: Dogs can understand what we are saying?

Ms.Echo: Dogs are not like humans, they cannot tell that we are pronouncing their names, but they can recognize the tones.

Student: How to implant the microchip?

Ms.Echo: Veterinarians implant it on the neck, it's a quick and painless process.

Student: Does it hurt when their ear got notched?

Ms.Echo: It's a quick and painless process, by doing this , we can see which of them are spayed/neutered. Because it's a big surgery, and no one wants to do it twice (it's useless at the same time).

Student: What's the daily life of the dogs in PACK?

Ms.Echo: They play games with their roommate and achieve new goals every day.
