Central Idea:

Earth is part of a vast and mysterious universe that we are continually striving to understand.

Examples of Student Work:

Students have been investigating space exploration and decision-making with regards to resources used in space exploration. In this project, students learn what life is like as engineers and must solve a problem that could be experienced on other planets. They design, build, test and redesign rovers created out of pasta. They must stay on budget and plan for problems at the start. At the end, they reflect on their understanding of the design process and have an understanding of the complex problems facing space exploration.

Photos are of students testing their design to see if they are able to withstand a simulated drop down a crater wall and continue movement without breaking.
