G3- Exploring History at the Evergreen Maritime Museum: A Journey Through Time
Today, our third-graders embarked on an exciting field trip to the Evergreen Maritime Museum in Taipei, directly connecting to our Unit of Inquiry (UOI) 6. Our central idea for this unit is, "Past exploration and settlement affect a location’s current development." This trip was designed to immerse students in the fascinating world of maritime history.
Each exhibit showcased the evolution of maritime technology and design, from ancient junks and caravels to modern cargo ships. The detailed craftsmanship of these models brought history to life, allowing students to visualize the ships that once sailed the seas.
The highlight of our visit was the section dedicated to famous explorers. Students had the opportunity to learn about legendary figures like Zheng He, Christopher Columbus, and Ferdinand Magellan. These are some of the explorers students are researching for their summative assessment. They were able to gain valuable information through our guided tour.
After the museum tour, students were encouraged to reflect on their experiences and write journal entries as if they were aboard the ships of the explorers they learned about. This activity not only reinforced their understanding but also allowed them to creatively express their newfound knowledge.
The trip to the Evergreen Maritime Museum was a memorable and educational experience for our students. It not only enhanced their understanding of our UOI theme but also sparked their curiosity and imagination. We are excited to see how this experience will inspire their upcoming projects and presentations on explorers.
