G2 Math : Inquiring into Shapes

Approaches to Learning (ATLs): self-management, social, thinking

Learner Profile: thinker, communicator

Recently in math, we have been inquiring into shapes (both 2D and 3D) and patterns. To add a new level of understanding beyond the math book, students made patterns with a variety of 2D shapes. This was further reinforced by the weekly spelling/vocabulary words.

Another important part of our learning with Singapore Math is allowing students an opportunity to work with manipulatives to deepen their understanding of the concepts they are learning. During this group activity, students made patterns of different 3D shapes using blocks. To add on to their designs, students cut 2D shapes out of paper. They then sketched out their patterns on paper.
