G3 Cookie Cafe

Central idea: Cooperation is essential to achieve team goals.

During the recent unit, How We Organise Ourselves, Grade 3 children worked cooperatively to run a cookie café and raise funds to help the school's mission clubs. Prior to their opening day, teams took part in games and activities to promote the concept of cooperation. Then, it was time to design and develop recipes by researching ingredients and drawing on prior experiences. After making a trial batch of cookies, teams began costing ingredients and marketing their products.

Teams produced advertising posters, invitations, business cards and visited other classes to promote their café. Once children had all decided on their roles and responsibilities within the group, it was time for the

grand opening. It was pleasing to see children go through this process as a team and by the end of the project they had learned, not only how to run a café, but also that cooperation is essential to achieve a team goal. As a result, the entire third grade team raised a total of 48,300NT and donated all of them to fund Kuei Shan Secondary School's local mission clubs.
