As Kuei Shan further promotes and strengthens bilingual learning, year 2018 marks our first series of in-school bilingual events:
January 2018 - G1-5 Spelling Bee
February 2018 - K-5 Bilingual Storytelling Event
March 2018 - K-5 Bilingual Poetry Event
March 2018 - G4-5 Bilingual Speech Event
June 2018 - G3-5 Chinese literature and poetry recitation
June 2018 - PreK-5 English Songs and Rhymes Celebration
SY106 Language Event Objectives:
To provide opportunities for ALL students to develop confidence and improve their speaking skills in both English and Chinese
To promote love and pride in bilingual learning
Prepare students for out-of-school competition opportunities such as the Asia-Pacific Bilingual Festival (2018 event at ISF Academy, HK, from April 13 to 14)
As stated in the objectives, it is Kuei Shan’s goal for all K-5 students to advance their language skills and provide a great chance for them to explore their creative side and public speaking potential. They are all strongly encouraged to learn to recite (and participate in the classroom elimination round for individual events.) and sing! It was quite a surprise to discover some hidden talents!
A special shout-out to all the parents for believing in the school’s mission to raise effective communicators by supporting your children at home and spending time to help them prepare for the events. As our students gain more and more experience and practice each year, they will certainly grow to become strong and confident bilingual individuals, ready to serve not just the community, but the world.
