G1 English: Green Eggs and Ham

The theme of the current first grade unit is “Who We Are.”

Preparations are already under way for the summative assessment ahead… a reader’s theater presentation of the book “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss!

The kids are learning about how people take care of each other and cooperate to accomplish a common objective through this collaborative project. The book offers a lot of fun dialogue for the students and imaginative scenarios, which provides excellent fodder for their imagination.

One formative task the students were asked to complete involved identifying their favorite “scene” from “Green Eggs and Ham” and to write an explanation as to why they chose that particular scene, as well as to illustrate it.

Students have made incredible progress from the beginning of the year in regard to handwriting, spelling, and forming correct sentences. Overcoming the challenge of learning to express an original idea in English written form is an amazing feat, and I am so proud of the first grade students!
