SY105 PYP New Parents Workshop

As Kuei Shan is recognized as an IB Continuum School offering all three programs – PYP, MYP, and DP – the school ensures that the philosophy, structure, and curriculum are aligned with the IB Standards and Practices. As such, it is essential that the whole school community is continually educated. In light of this, parents whose children are new to the lower school IB program were invited to attend this year's PYP Parents Workshop held on Thursday, October 27th, 2016, from 8:00-10:00am at the 6F multi-purpose room. The school believes that as parents learn to understand the PYP teaching and learning, they will be able to support their children through the learning process. Parents' involvement in their children’s learning plays a vital role in their progress and success in school.

This two-hour workshop provided an opportunity for new parents to actually experience how their children learn in an IB classroom through inquiry and collaboration – the “21st century learning.” The workshop topics for SY105 were as follows:

1. Introduction to 21st Century Learning

2. Artful Thinking

3. Thinking routines for teaching language and literature

4. Thinking routines for teaching math and social studies

5. Expressing ideas through non-verbal communication

We appreciate the new parents for taking time out of their already busy schedule to come and learn with us. We thank them for their continued trust and support in Kuei Shan’s IB education. We believe that as the entire school community gains a good grasp of the IB teaching and learning practices, we can effectively work together to develop the students’ potential.
