Science Fair!
Theme: "How the world works"
Central idea: Exploring the properties of matter can help us understand the nature of the scientific process. 探索物質的特性可以幫助我們理解科學過程的本質.
This unit had a strong science background where we explored the properties of matter and how to use the scientific method to gain new knowledge and understanding about matter. Some activities included in this unit were taking notes on the different properties of matter and transformations, learning the steps of the scientific method, doing lots of experiments, reflecting and writing reports, and looking for answers to how the world works.
The students learned to research, find information from resources, observe scientific phenomena, record the results of experiments, and apply the scientific method in their own life to find answers independently. They were guided to take plenty of notes on their Science Journal - their hypotheses, data, observations, analyses, and conclusions - while they apply the concepts learned in various subject areas (science, language, math, as well as art).

Summative assessment task: Science Fair!
The students' task was to design their own experiment following the scientific process and work to find an answer to their inquiry. The students did a great job performing their experiments on their own at school (except for those with delicate experiments involving dry ice), as well as putting together their posters by themselves.
