Problem Solving : G5 Building Chicken Coop

"Building a chicken coop" is the biggest challenge in the process of raising chickens in the fifth grade. At first, the students in the engineering team brainstormed together, starting with the carton to make a simple design as a chicken's home, and when the carton gradually became unusable, some students started thinking about how to build a formal chicken coop for the chickens. Two of the students proposed to design the design drawings of the chicken coop by themselves, and then let the engineering team students discuss how to build it. However, designing a chicken coop is not an easy task and requires professional assistance. One of G5 students' parent is a professional architect, so he enthusiastically proposed to consult his father and ask him to be his consultants! Thus, this starts the next learning plan for chicken coop construction.

The design of the chicken house was guided by G5 Student Chiu's father and all the students in the fifth grade discussed and voted .After selecting the chicken house that everyone felt was the most suitable for the chickens to live in, they began to learn the knowledge of carpentry construction.

During the winter vacation, students in the fifth-grade engineering team were not idle. They found a day and took an 8-hour carpentry class. In the carpentry class, they learned a lot of woodworking knowledge of building. However, for the little chicken's living space planning, there are still many shortcomings. So, Mr.Chiu led everyone to discuss more suitable designs for the chickens to live in. Everyone actively participated in the discussion, in order to give the chickens the best living space.

On a weekend at the end of March, students in the fifth-grade engineering team officially came to the school to "build the chicken coop" together! They worked together to move the materials to the pre-determined place for the chicken coop. With Mr.Chiu's simple construction map and his brief instruction, students then assigned the work by themselves and tried to use the existing materials to build the chicken coop. First of all, students did their best to understand the tools, confirming the purpose of the tools, and then find a way to build the chicken coop and explore it by themselves.

Under the guidance of Mr.Chiu's team, students finally completed the construction of the main structure, and then used the free time after class to complete the rest. Students in the fifth-grade engineering team, under the sun, step by step, built a happy home for the little chicken!
