K1-2 Central idea: People use different ways to access water.

Line of inquiry: How water goes to our homes

K3 Central idea: Exploring the water cycle can reveal patterns of change around us.

Line of inquiry: Patterns of change in the water cycle.

For K3, we went outside on campus to look for evidence of the water cycle. Children were able to find the cloud (condensation), rain (precipitation), and pond (collection) all by themselves and can identify which part of the water cycle it appears. We made a video to talk about our discoveries.

For K1 and 2, to showcase their understanding of water distribution, children built water with plastic bottles as pipes by collaborating with each other, and added labels to each part of the water distribution system. They were excited to try putting water in. Although the water pipes needed to be fixed several times, we spent time adjusting them to bring water all the way to the house on the bottom. Children then made a video to explain how clean water is sent to our homes.

Another group chose to do a skit for our summative assessment. Children have created a skit to explain how clean water is sent to our homes. The four main stages are river, filter, reservoir, and home. They made the four stages with different props, including blocks, baskets, and other equipment. They came up with the lines by themselves. They also took initiative to design the costume and props with a little help from the teachers.
