In our recent PYP unit, How We Organize Ourselves, Grade 4 students transformed into young entrepreneurs as they explored the central idea: Decisions about money affect our everyday lives.

Each student group brainstormed a unique product idea, developed a detailed business plan, and crafted catchy slogans and jingles to promote their brand. They wrote persuasive letters to potential investors and polished their public speaking skills for a “Shark Tank”-inspired pitch, which they presented to other classes.

Peer feedback was collected using a student-assessed rubric, giving everyone a chance to reflect on both presentation and business quality. The top groups advanced to a final round where they pitched their ideas to our PYP director, who selected the ultimate Grade 4 business champion. It was a fun, creative, and collaborative journey that helped students apply real-world skills in persuasive writing, marketing, critical thinking, and teamwork.
