G5 How We Organize Ourselves: Social System

The central idea for our current unit is "Governments and institutions are built to manage and ensure society's stability." With regards to this central idea, one of the questions we discussed in class is "Should the government try to get more foreigners to move to Taiwan? Why? Why not?" This is a timeless question. In the past, however, it was not in regards to "Taiwan" or any specific country, but to the idea of sharing any region where people lived successfully with a second group of people would suddenly show up in that same area. "Are these people a threat?" "Will they help us?" "How will they help us?" These are all questions that follow naturally. We made a list of reasons concerning both sides of this question and wrote an essay as a class on the projector screen. Finally, each student had to write their own opinion on this topic. These are some of the essays that students wrote.
