G2 Field Trip to the Recycling Center
Central idea: We have the responsibility to maintain the Earth's natural resources.
Grade 2 went to visit the local recycling center to learn about how our community recycles. This is part of "finding out" phase of our inquiry into our responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and other living things. The children learned the importance of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.
Through hands on activities such as crushing, sorting and tearing plastic bottles and paper, the children were able to see the large amount of waste that we are creating in our community. We learned ways to reduce our waste, reuse the waste we create and then recycle what we cannot reuse.
Afterwards, we went to Dahu Park to express our appreciation for Mother Nature through poem writing and play a scavenger hunt to enjoy this beautiful creation that God has given us to take care of and be responsible for.
