G2 Penpal Project

Grade 2 was very excited when they received a surprise package in the mail all the way from Queensland, Australia. They received Tucker, the traveling Koala as well as a book full of messages and pictures from a class of grade 2 Australian students. We got to learn about their school and way of life as well as share our own school traditions and culture in Taiwan. The children also shared all their UOI learning about heroes and shared who their hero was and why.

Central idea: Exploring heroes in history inspires us to become a good influence to the people around us.

The second graders took Tucker to Sun-Yat-Sen Memorial Hall as they learned more about one of Taiwan's national heroes. It was a timely visit as we were celebrating Double Ten Day that week. We brought all of our flags there and held our own celebration right outside the memorial hall!Tucker is now safely in the mail on his next trip to Canada, from there he plans on traveling to England before returning to Australia. We plan on staying in touch with these new international friends and will have a Skype date in the near future.
